Abstract : Conference presented on the UIMC General Assembly in Lisbon (Portugal), in october 2001. A study was conducted on the reasons for unfitness among portuguese train drivers. The main one are :
neurological and psychiatric causes (31%),
hearing loss (14%),
cardiovascular causes (13%)
and work accidents (9%).
The major reasons for temporary unfitness is alcoholism (16%), then psychiatric reasons and after cardiovascular causes. Drivers found to be most unfit are in the age group 50-59 years old. No text available.
